Maccharī Brāhmaṇo - difficult words.



sāvattiyaṃ- in Sāvatti, adinnapubbako- adinnapubbaka, nāma- name, brāhmaṇo- a Brahmin, ahosi- was. Tena- by him, kassaci- to anybody, kinñci- anything, na- not, dinnapubbaṃ- has been given. Tassa- to him, eko putto- one son, eva- only, piyo- dear, manāpo- beloved, puttassa- to the son, pilandhanaṃ- an ornament, dātukāmo- desiring to give, sace- if, suvaṇṇakārassa- to a goldsimith, ācikkhissāmi- ask, prescribe,(future), vetanaṃ- a wage, dātabbaṃ bhavissati- should be given, iti- thus,as, sayaṃ eva- he himself, suvaṇṇaṃ- gold, koṭetvā- having hammered, kuṇḍalāni- ear rings, katvā- having made, adāsi- gave. Tena- because of that, assa putto- his son, paññāyi- was known. soḷasavassakāle- at the age of sixteen, paṇḍurogo- jaundice, udapādi- arise, (suffered), vejjānaṃ santikaṃ- to physicians, gantvā- hving gone, asukarogassa- such and such a disease, kiṃ bhesajjaṃ- what is the medicine (which medicine) karotha- prepare, (make) pucchi- asked. yaṃ vā taṃ vā- this or that, rukkha- tree, taca- barks (of trees), ādiṃ- etc. Taṃ- that, it, āharitvā- having brought. Tatā karontassa- when he was treating this way, rogo- disease, balavā- more (worse). dubbalabhāvaṃ- state of weakness, ñatvā- having known, ekaṃ- one, pakkosi- invited. Oloketvā- having examined, amhākaṃ- to us, ekaṃ kiccaṃ- another (one) business, atthi- have, aññaṃ- another, tikicchāpehi- treat, vatvā- having said, nikkhami- went away. maraṇasamayaṃ- time of death, imassa- to him, dassanattāya- to see, āgatāgatā- people who keep on coming, antogehe- in the house, sāpateyyaṃ- possessions, passissanti- may see. Tasmā- therefore, naṃ- him, bahi karissāmi- put out, nīharitvā- having brought out, ālinde- in the veranda, nipajjāpesi- made (him) to lie. Tasmiṃ kālakate- when he passed away, sarīraṃ- body, jhāpetvā- having cremated, devasikaṃ- daily, āḷāhanaṃ- to the cremation ground, gantvā- having gone, kahaṃ- where is, ekaputtaka ekaputtakā- one and only son, rodi- wept, cried.
